My Everyday Spirituality: Making Peace with Chaos

by Cindy Bonaparte

When I come home every night, I hope to find refuge from the crazy world I have to go bumbling around in. Whether I’ve experienced road rage and honking horns, nasty supervisors, or a broken heel on a really bad date, I try to shed the chaos at my front door.

But some days, this proves more challenging than others.

Although I don't literally hear my boss yelling as I turn on my tea kettle, and a car doesn't cut me off in the hallway to the bathroom, I sometimes can’t help but stir up that negative energy when I reflect on the day’s events.

My mood changes, and I feel as if all that energy comes back to me over and over again. I even wake up the next day still feeling tired!

So I decided it wasn't enough for my home to be quiet, it needed harmony…and lot's of it! You know what I’m talking about if you’ve ever walked into someone's place and said, “Wow! I just feel so nice when I come into your home!” ¬

I made it my mission to chaos-proof my home, and along the way, I discovered a Harmony Intention Candle Kit at www.ToriHartman.com. I felt like it was made especially for me.

The act of lighting this organic soy aromatherapy candle immediately relaxed me and lifted my spirits. The intention-setting booklet that accompanied the candle (which, by the way, weighed in at nearly three whopping pounds!) suggested I keep the candle lit for seven ceremonial days. So I did, each day coming home to my candle burning safely in its sizable glass jar. As soon as I saw it, I was reminded me of the peace and harmony I wanted to create.

Making the Harmony Intention Candle part of my daily routine forced me to make something positive out of each day and envision things happening the way I want. As a result, I now carry some good vibes when I go back into the chaotic world to block out the negativity.

With all that positive energy radiating from me, I’ve seen interesting results! My boss is less tense and seems to respect me more. Drivers make eye contact and let me into their lanes. And that bad date? He's actually a really sweet guy!

Now, my friends come over and say, “Wow! I feel so at peace when I come to your house.” It makes me feel good that I can affect those around me, and the world seems a better place. Who wouldn’t want that?

A Lesson In How Intention Candles Burn

Recently, one of my clients bought the Prosperity Intention Candle Kit. She purchased Prosperity because she felt she was on a roll and wanted to solidify her personal focus.

As outlined in my booklet, she set her intention and lit her candle on the day of the week that provided the best energy. She then waited.

At three days in, she emailed me, worried. The candle’s wax was sticking to the sides of the jar.

In the booklet, I explain that if the wax sticks to the sides, the issue may be sticky or something that needs to be addressed.

She wanted to know if we needed to do a reading or if she needed another candle. My answer was no.

I’m not going to do a reading for someone who doesn’t need one. Yes, you read that correctly. I’m not here to make you addicted to my intuition. I’m here to offer a path to your own intuition and knowing.

Yes, as a psychic and intuitive, I see things. But I frequently suggest that clients who are in a state of panic wait a few days before deciding if they need to come see me. Spiritual counseling, I believe, is something that shouldn’t be abused. It’s an honor to have the gift of guidance.

So what did I say to my customer?

Here’s the email I sent her. I changed a few things to respect her privacy and clarify the message.

What Can Tori Hartman, Inc. Offer YOU in October?

Blogging has been a new exercise for me. I have been feeling my way through in my first blogs and finding a way to express myself that is useful to others. I believe that one should “write it wrong” – it’s better to write than not – and course-correct as you go.

That said, I’m calling October the Month of Wisdom. You will begin to see the congruence of my message in our October newsletter. As my message is coming together – the spirits that guide me to speak to you are becoming louder, too.

I now realize I have been away from my tribe in the past few years. I definitely departed from my gut feelings and wisdom. How appropriate that I would reclaim it at the time when I am offering you the same opportunity.

If you’ve visited my site, then you know there’s A LOT there, and “it” hit me the other day: You have to know me. And I don’t mean know-what-I-feed-my-dogs-know-me… I’m talking about getting to know my spiritual process and evolution.

I never understand at a given time why I have been drawn to do a particular thing. My father used to say, “Well, just get to the top of the mountain and see if you like the view rather than standing at the bottom and arguing for your limitations.”

I was guided into everything I’ve ever done – and in hindsight, it all makes sense – from my early days as Liz Claiborne’s first petite model to writing about the fashion business to my work as an intuitive. I’ve been thrown into various pursuits, and I’ve learned.

When Putnam published my book, FABULOUS YOU! UNLOCK YOUR PERFECT PERSONAL STYLE , I cried for two days when my editor told me the title. I hated it. And now years later, I can see how perfect it was.

That book was originally called “Colorometry” and focused on the meaning behind the colors we wear and live with. I traveled to the proverbial ends of the earth to find information on color energy for that book. And when my editor said she liked my lifestyle chapter – “not the color thing,” as she put it – that’s what the book became.

At the end of the day, however, I fought to keep in the color section, and it’s the basis for much of the energetic work I do today.

It all comes from somewhere, and now I see that each piece of the puzzle was put together energetically to support YOU. This I learned while I worked with the Reiki practitioner who hand-pours my organic soy wax candles to create the aromatherapy for each Intention Candle Kit.

I don’t believe for a minute that you will wear a gratitude bracelet and the heavens will open up. But I do know that these products are divinely energized to push you forward into blessings.

My intention is that each month, you will gain AMAZING value and learn to tap into the Universal energy that the month’s vibration offers. This is how one manifests…by surrendering to the flow of the season.

I know. It can be confusing, but the tips and ease of tapping into this energy is FREE for you in the newsletter. Every month, if you are a subscriber, you will get the opportunity to download the free meditation that will bring you powerful insight into what is going on in your life – and give you the secret roadmap hidden in my site that gives you a powerful reading.

Call, email or write us with any questions. We are always happy to support YOU in finding the correct path.

Tori Hartman is a color expert and author of Fabulous You! Unlock your Perfect Personal Style.

If you’ve been watching the candidates, you’ve been watching two very different styles of dress, particularly in their choice of colors, or lack of them.

The articles of clothing in question on debate night?

McCain: Grey suit. Light blue shirt. Red and white tie.

Obama: Grey suit. White shirt. Red tie.

Both candidates wore grey suits to “neutralize” themselves on television and Internet viewing. The color grey lets people know that both candidates stand in the middle of the road…that neither is an extremist.

McCain wore a light blue shirt and a red and white tie, most obviously to represent patriotism. Looking deeper, however, blue communicates truth. McCain is driven to speak up what he feels is his truth. He will always articulate what he stands for. The red and white tie tells that he is deeply rooted in staying detached. Red signifies passion and self-motivating energy, yet in McCain’s choice of tie, it is tempered by white, a color that deflects. McCain is a man who understands the need to stay cool under fire. All soldiers are trained in this, and it was the message of his color combination.

I give McCain an “A” for his well-chosen colors. They show he is able to stand for his convictions.

Now for Obama.

In many pictures of Obama, we see his white shirt sleeves rolled up. This, of course, is an indication to us that he is literally ready to roll up his sleeves and get the job done. This message is congruent with his choice of wardrobe colors on debate night. White indicates an ability to receive but not necessarily absorb information. He considers but does not take personally what is being conveyed. The ability to stay detached and uninvolved in others opinions is evident in a white shirt.

The most interesting choice of color was Obama’s deep red tie. Red is the color of service, and since the tie was on the darker end of the red spectrum, it suggested the idea that Obama is in deep contemplation. His thoughts are profound and heartfelt.

I also give Obama an “A” for communicating his concern and caring through his colors on debate night.

Let’s now look at the color choices of the potential First Ladies.

Cindy McCain always chooses to wear something bold to convey the strength of her convictions. Her pure red suit during the debate reveals the message that she is in charge. She is the power behind the throne, and McCain relies upon her to be his supporter. Theirs is a traditional marriage.

Michele Obama, on the other hand, has been working to convey the image of traditional wife and partner. Her energy is very strong and in an effort to support rather than outshine her husband, she tones down her style. For the debate, Mrs. Obama wore a multi-colored outfit in olive and red. As I mentioned, red indicates contemplation and caring, while shades of green are associated with the heart and healing. This combination was chosen to subdue the powerful aspect of her role in their modern marriage.

As you can see, color is revealing. Now, if only the colors chosen by the candidates and their wives could tell us who, in fact, will win the election!

###

My Practice

In the early 1990s, when I started doing psychic work, I had so many people phoning me for readings, I had to start charging money. Time didn’t allow me to do anything else.

This line of work started several years prior when I had a near death experience (NDE). I had gone to the doctor and just as she got to me, I fell backwards. As I fell, I turned and saw myself pull out of my body. I watched as the doctor reached to catch me and yelled out. But everything was silent.

Then, everything went dark, and I heard a steel door slam shut. I was floating and peaceful, and it was wonderful. Ahead of me, through the darkness, I saw light and what appeared to be dark shadows moving back and forth. In a flash, I realized that it was too silent there. I didn’t hear my own breath! I began to struggle and started falling at a speed faster than I can describe.

I slammed back into my body, sat up and gulped for air. I was back… startling the group medics around me, I can assure you!

While in the hospital during the following days, I began to “know” things.

I informed the nurse who came to take my temperature: It’s good your boyfriend moved to Rhode Island, because he’d been seeing someone else all along. Startled and upset, she burst into tears and ran out of the room.

The head nurse then came in to inform me it wasn’t nice to gossip about the nurses. I had no idea what she was talking about, since I knew no one. I just closed my eyes while she took my blood pressure. Then came the voice in my head again: Your stepson is not gay. He likes women, and ballet is the perfect way to meet them.

She leaned in to me: Where are you getting your information?

I shrugged. This was a New York hospital, and I didn’t want to wind up in Bellevue.

It didn’t take long before I realized that anyone who touched me got a reading…whether they asked or not! I soon learned how to control this and today, I only read people if I first get their permission.

But back then, it was a different story. I told a doctor to check his tires before going skiing.

His conversation with me was the most meaningful. He came in two days later and asked me about the tires. Apparently, I had assisted him in averting a dangerous situation.

Well, if I told you I heard a voice, I’d end up in psych, right?

He laughed and nodded. Probably.

I smiled and told him I didn’t know.

My world has changed since then. I have since been blessed with understanding that those of us who know things are given this information for a reason. Often, it’s because we are here to give information that will alter the way others experience life.

Over the years, my practice has grown. People often ask me what type of readings I give, and honestly, they vary. Sometimes, it’s about work or the path to take. In those cases, I will suggest a product to assist in grounding my clients in an intention for work, love or health.

Sometimes, my readings are about seeing what is coming and telling someone.

And other times, a deceased loved one or friend will show up to speak.

My products grew out of my desire to assist people in attracting what they want, especially when the direction they’re heading in is taking them somewhere else. The products were created to form a roadmap, a spiritual light that allows the universe to identify you as someone to send a particular package to. It’s like putting your name on the spiritual mailbox.

I will be writing more about the work I do and how I use the to give you a solid understanding of the power of intention.

Let’s talk law of attraction.

What you think about you bring about, right? Hmm, not always.

Here’s the key: you must EXPECT that the very thing you are focusing on will happen!

My friend, Katherine Woodward Thomas, in her book, Calling In The One, terms it “holding the high watch.”

Years ago, when I needed $3,000 desperately to pay my bills, I began my journey into this work. I wrote out checks for all my bills, put them in the envelope, stamped them and put them on my table. I had set my intention to draw in this money, and then I prepared for its arrival.

Someone asked me where I was going to get this imaginary cash.

I replied, “From wherever it is now.”

And it did arrive…thanks to an intention I had set months prior.

I had referred a friend of mine to a lucrative speaking and consulting assignment. I had not heard anything, so I completely forgot about it. But the day after I placed my checks out to be paid, a check arrived for $3,100. My friend had gifted me 10% of her job!

I just EXPECTED something to happen. And this is the secret I want to share with you.

What are you expecting today? Whatever it is, prepare for it. Do everything you can to get ready!

Imagine, for a moment, expectant parents. They have just learned to expect their first child…they’re very happy. What do they do after the news? They start to get the baby’s room ready. Why? Because they’re in EXPECTATION of the child. They don’t wait until the baby arrives to prepare the baby’s room.

It’s called expecting, because the arrival is imminent.

Are you starting to catch my drift?

As you probably know, I recently launched my online store, ToriHartman.com. Part of my intention in creating my products was to serve as daily reminders for my customers to EXPECT miracles. My products are tools that support the arrival of your intentions.

To manifest the life of your dreams, you must be in harmony with your expectations.

Get into harmony with the belief that what you desire is already in the bag. And if you choose, my products will serve as daily reminders. May the law of attraction be with you!

To Self-Help Or Not To Self-Help?

I just got a stack of self-help books today. I review for my spiritual gardening site, Blessed Gardens. They’re sitting right there on my table. And there, I presume, they will stay for a while.

I’m just not in the mood.

Don’t get me wrong. I love self-help books. I’m in the business of self-help. But sometimes, when I’m feeling under the weather, such books make me feel worse….like I should be scrambling to fix my life rather than sit and feel my feelings.

My Creative Director, Kristen, and I were talking about it yesterday. Sometimes the best course of action is dive into great fiction or see a movie and simply let go.

Yes, this is coming from a person who touts intention and focus and enlightenment.

But have you ever noticed that the moment you let go, the moment you throw up your hands, that’s when the answer appears?

It’s much the same with manifesting. The real key to manifesting is in the intensity prior to letting go. It’s the time when the trapeze artist has let go of the handle bar, swings in mid-air, and in the most magnificent show of faith, spins in the hands of partner with perfect timing.

Can you imagine being caught? That is the magic of intention…the power to trust Spirit. And the only way to achieve it is to let go and completely trust that everything you have done to this point has prepared you to make your best performance.

And this is when you are completely breathtaking to behold. It is in the moments of vulnerability that we give others that chance to share who we are with them.

It is in that delicious mid-air spin with Spirit that we can connect.

Consider the flip side. You let go and fall to the net below. You bounce a few times and climb back up to reposition yourself.

Fear or faith? The first choice brings you back to faith’s door, the other to Spirit.

I’m in mid-spin today. When I catch Spirit, I’ll swing with it and land on the other side with a thirst for knowledge. Then, with greater faith, I’ll reach for one of my amazing new self-help books.

I was interviewed on a conservative radio program, and then, on a liberal radio program. Same day. Same question.

Who will our next president be?

“You’re psychic,” they say. “Tell us your prediction.”

Now, for some folks, the pressure would be on. Nerves, you know?

“It doesn’t really matter all that much, does it?” came my reply. And I meant it.

Whoever is sworn into office in January 2009 is going to have the toughest four years of his life. This is not some mild pickle we’re in. An entire nation has lost morale. There is a general pallor that has shaded over people. The planet is rebelling.

And I’m supposed to step up and be positive?

As a nation, we’re in a situation akin to standing on the beach before a tsunami or thinking Hurricane Katrina is just a passing shower. Energetically, a storm’s a-brewin’.

So, what do you do?

Understand that the planet is like a person. It has been warning us for a while.

Ever notice that when you don’t get a lesson it just keeps on coming? I know that’s true for me. If I don’t want to see something, I can very effectively stick my head in the sand. And it works! Really well. For a while.

We can’t do that anymore. We can’t blame one person in one office. We can’t possibly believe that any one person is going to change the tide. It has to be a whole mess of us. The whole lot. When you hear folks, like Joe Vitale, say meditate – do it. Immediately, we have to start imagining a better world and creating it.

Visualize peace and security. Bless the president…whoever it is. Let’s stand for something again.

It doesn’t matter who our next president is going to be.

Remember, we have set up our leaders to be poker players. There is no way we can read what is really going on behind the façade. It’s time to stop the don’t-blame-me-I-voted- for-so-and-so game and face our mess. We have four years of clean-up ahead of us. Yes, all of us.

When the tsunami hit or Katrina was in full force or the towers were in rubble, I can pretty much guarantee not ONE person was concerned about the President of the United States. That came later, after survival and shock.

Then we began to place the blame, because it’s not as frightening as the realization that something so devastating can happen randomly. It’s easier to blame than to sit with the pain and loss. It’s easier to blame than to think we had done something bad to deserve tragedy.

Ask anyone who worked for the Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina, and they’ll tell you that Wal-Mart trucks carrying free supplies reached the victims before our own government.

Here’s another risk. Ready?

We choose our lessons, but not how we will learn them. Want patience? You’ll encounter long lines. And the list goes on. No one prays for a disaster. People pray or wish for things, but sometimes, the road there is uncomfortable.

I knew a woman who prayed for a happy marriage, and her husband left her. Now, after going through hell and back over that loss, she is finally happily married.

The moral? We create what we need. Think long and hard about what we have created.

My thoughts? Our planet is crying out in pain. We may not have “started” it, but with knowledge comes responsibility.

Let’s all begin to pray for love and unity. That is the way we find one another again after a disaster. Let’s not be attached to the person in the White House. Let’s be attached to love and healing.

So we’ll all wake up on a Wednesday this November and find ourselves with a new regime. No matter which lever you pull, make a firm commitment to be in this together. All of us. Then, whoever is in the White House rolling up his sleeves can turn to us to for help.

Namaste.

Namaste.
